The Lord of the Rings - Duel for Middle-earth pits two players against each other in a struggle for the fate of Middle-earth.
The Conflict: One player commands the Fellowship, striving to protect the free peoples and destroy the One Ring. The other embodies Sauron, seeking to capture Frodo and Sam and conquer Middle-earth.
Gameplay: The game unfolds in three chapters, each with similar objectives. Players take turns:
Strengthening Skills: Enhancing their abilities.
Hoarding Treasure: Accumulating resources.
Expanding Influence: Establishing their presence across Middle-earth.
Rallying Races: Gaining the support of Middle-earth's peoples.
Advancing the Quest: Moving Frodo and Sam (Fellowship) or the Nazgûl (Sauron) along the Quest track.
Victory Conditions:
Ring's Fate:
Fellowship: Frodo and Sam destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom.
Sauron: The Nazgûl capture Frodo and Sam.
Domination of Middle-earth: Control all seven regions with Fortresses and/or Units.
Racial Support: Rally the support of all six Races of Middle-earth by collecting their symbols on Green cards.
Conflicts: When Units clash in a region, players remove one Unit each until one side is eliminated.
Alliances: Players form alliances with Races by playing Green cards with matching symbols, earning bonuses.
